How do I start the process?
For most of our clients this is the first time they are arranging a sea burial.  Just call us at 732-801-7472 and we will take care of the rest.
 
Do I need to attend the scattering?
No.  You can deliver the cremains to our office either personally or through the US Postal Service and we will scatter the ashes in complience with all EPA (federal) and DEP (state) regulations.

How long does the trip take?
From the time we leave the dock to the time we retune is generally on longer then 90 monites.  This allows sufficient time at the scattering site.
 
Do I need a permit to scatter ashes in the ocean?
No.  Permits are not required for ocean scatterings.  The Enviomrntal Protection Agency, EPA, does require notification of a sea burial within 30 days.  Burial At Sea Services will handle the notification process.
 
Do I need to put the ashes in an urn?
No.  You can scatter the ashes on the water directly from the receptical you received from the crematorium.  You may, if you like, purchase a biodegradable urn  and deposit the urn in the water with the ashes intact.  Many clients prefer this method but it is a personal choice.
 
Can we conduct a religious ceremony?
Yes. Many of our clients employ religious clergy to accompany the family and friends and perform a religious ceremony of their choosing.
 
How much notice do you need to secure a date?
Burial At Sea Services is very accustomed to accommodating clients within a days notice.  Naturallly, any date is subject to availablility and we recommend giving us a much notice as possible to secure your perfered date.
 
Can we bring food and beverages aboard?
Yes.  You are welcome to bring any food, snacks or beverages of your choosing.  Alcoholic beverages are permitter for those over 21 years of age.
 
Do I receive documentation memorializing the internment?
Yes.  We will mail to you a signed and sealed certification document containing all the pertinent information about the internment.  We will also send you a copy of the EPA report we file on your behalf.
